The trim in an older Peninsula home is often better material than money can buy today. Damaged casing, worn stair parts, and tired built-ins get repaired and matched — not ripped out and replaced with something close enough.
How we work on trim
Profile matching is the craft. A damaged section of casing or base gets cut back to clean joints and spliced with stock milled or built up to match the original profile — the eye reads continuous molding, not a patch. Where a whole run has to come off, it comes off carefully; old-growth material that survives removal goes back on the wall.
Interior carpentry rides on the same skills: shelving that sags, built-ins whose doors have dropped, banisters loose at the newel, stair treads that creak and cup. These are joinery problems with joinery answers — re-gluing, re-blocking, refastening into solid framing — not caulk-and-hope.
The finish is part of the repair. Nail holes filled, joints caulked where the original was caulked, primed and painted to the existing line — or stained and blended where the woodwork is clear-finished. Done right, you stop being able to find the repair within a week of living with it.
